2016 Arts Festival application

Planning for the 2016 Munising Bay Arts Association Art Festival is
underway.  This is a juried art & fine craft show.  The festival will be held on Saturday June 25, 2016 from 10a -6p rain or shine. 
This is the start of the heavier tourist season for the Munising and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore area.  The festival is held in Munising’s Bayshore park by the city docks, home to Pictured Rocks Boat Cruises.

Attached is the application form.  We hope that you will consider participating as a vendor. Deadline for application is May 17, though if you meet the early deadline of April 1 you can save yourself a few dollars.

Munising Bay Arts Association forms LLC

Munising Bay Arts Association (MBAA) is expanding their role in promoting arts and art education in the Central U.P.  The association has formalized their business structure as a Limited Liability Company, effective January 1, 2016.

Since it’s inception in 2007, MBAA has functioned in the community as the host of the annual Munising Bay Arts Festival, which is held the last Saturday in June and includes visual and performing arts. Their other community arts leadership has included organizing:

  •     Munising Creates
  •     Gallery Stroll
  •        Gallery at Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center
  •        Art displays at City Hall
  •        Workshops for artists on the Business of Art
  •        Facebook page for MBAA
  •       Artist Roundtable

Munising Creates has been an opportunity for any person, youth or adult, to design a work of art based on a community theme.  Themes have included “Water Music” and “The Night Sky”.  The theme for 2016 will focus on the 100th Anniversary of the National Parks, as well as recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.  Details of which will be announced at a later date.

Gallery Stroll, held the last Saturday in September, allows the strollers to experience art and talk with the artists at Munising area businesses that sell their art.

Workshops, in partnership with MSU Extension, offered artists ways to expand their businesses by learning about creative economies and entrepreneurial management.  Artist Roundtable was introduced in 2014. This year the Artist Roundtable concept is expanding to weekly gatherings.

Artists and supporters of the arts who were previously identified as Members of the Munising Bay Arts Association will now become the “Friends of the Munising Bay Arts Association, LLC.”

This organizational change was completed to help secure the future success of this arts organization. The managing Board of the newly formed Munising Bay Arts Association, LLC are: Ted Nesberg, President; Bonnie Lindquist, Vice President; Donna Shields, Treasurer; Mandy Frantii, Secretary.  Also serving on the Board are Kathryn Lund Johnson and Joan Vinette. Artists Invited to Weekly Roundtable

Munising Bay Arts Association, LLC welcomes anyone to participate in sharing their love of art through discussion, exchanging ideas & resources, or their latest project in progress.

The concept of the Roundtable is to come together and enjoy an evening of art.  No formal structure, come as you are, and bring your art or art ideas.  No fees required.

Weekly gatherings will be held on Monday evenings from 6-8pm in the art room at Alger Parks & Recreation (former the Central Elementary School building) in Munising, MI.  The first gathering will be January 11th.  For more information,
